New Years Blog Thingy with... Shona Husk.

Welcome to 2013. I’ve decided to do a wee little series of interviews with some Australian Romance Writers to kick off the new year in style. The amazing title comes care of four Coronas and a lack of being able to think up anything wittier. Sorry.

Without further ado, let us delve deep into some psyches to see what the hell these guys got up to during 2012 and what they’re planning for 2013. First up we have my mate, the lovely Shona Husk, author of the ‘The Goblin King’, amongst a stack of other great swoon-worthy reads.

Shona Husk lives in Western Australia at the edge of the Indian Ocean. Blessed with a lively imagination she spent most of her childhood making up stories. As an adult she discovered romance novels and hasn't looked back. Drawing on history and myth, she weaves new worlds and writes heroes who aren't afraid to get hurt while falling in love.

With stories ranging from sensual to scorching, she is published with Ellora's Cave, Samhain Publishing, Carina Press and Sourcebooks. She is represented by the Ruben Agency.

What did you learn in 2012?

It’s easy to drive yourself crazy in release week checking Amazon numbers. You can’t change them so stop worrying.

I still can’t use a comma, and I’m sure I’ve made copy editors cry. Sorry!

Self-publishing wasn’t as scary as I thought it would be—but I paid someone to format and do the cover art.

What were some of your highlights of 2012?

Going to RT in Chicago. It was huge, plus I spent 5 weeks travelling around the US which was great.
Selling my second trilogy to Sourcebooks which for me was an important milestone.

What have you got planned for 2013, publishing or otherwise?

I’m finishing the Shadowlands series with For the Love of a Goblin Warrior and starting a new series, set between the fairy Court of Annwyn and our world, in July with The Outcast Prince. I’ve also got several novella coming out; Dark Secrets in Feb, Lunar Exposure and Ruby’s Ghost in May. And that’s just before July…then I might nap until my January 2014 release. I’m joking :)

Any movies, books and such like being released in 2013 that you're really looking forward to?

Hansel and Gretel at the movies. I need to see Strike Back: Vengeance and Spartacus: War of the Damned. I’m going to be tackling my massive TBR pile. I will get it under control this year (under control means down to 20 books), but to do that it means I have to stop pre-ordering all those lovely new books or read faster…

For the Love of a Goblin Warrior
- Barnes & Noble, iTunes. (For Amazon bang on the pretty cover.)
In a Faraway Land...
There lived a man who was trapped—his only companions a horde of goblins consumed by their lust for gold. He thought he was lost forever, thought that no one would ever remember he'd been noble.
A Fearless Warrior.
Now he has been thrust into the human world once again, but so much has changed. How can he ever be rid of the darkness after so long in the Shadowlands?
It Starts with Dreams of a Castle...
And a woman who takes his breath away and makes him forget the pain of his past. He knows he must protecet her at all costs. And perhaps in saving her, he can finally learn to love again.

Outcast Prince
- Book Depository. (For Amazon bang on the pretty cover.)
Caspian Mort can feel the history in anything he touches, a gift he inherited from his father, the Crown Prince of Annwyn. Devastated over his ex-wife's infidelity, Caspian has withdrawn from human contact except when working as an antiques dealer. While assessing the contents of the historic Callaway House he encounters the beautiful Lydia Callaway and senses that her home is haunted by a banished fairy. But what does the dangerous exile want? Unbeknownst to Lydia, she's the owner of the last remaining portal to Annwyn--a mirror hidden somewhere in the house. To keep Lydia safe, Caspian will have to divulge the secrets of his heritage, and risk losing his heart again.

Dark Secrets
- Barnes & Noble, iTunes. (For Amazon bang on the pretty cover.)
Six years ago, Haidyn Mast left his home and his betrothed Anisa to follow his magical calling. Too weak to join the Arcane Guild and too ashamed to return home, he has made a life as a prostitute—to all outward appearances. In truth, he sells his mind but not his body, using magic to let his clients experience their most secret fantasies while his hands stay clean. Even the Lawman, the arbiter of justice in Reseda, is one of his clients, but Haidyn would rather not know the extent of that man's depravity.

Though successful, Haidyn is shunned as a whore and his lack of formal training is causing his power to grow out of control. He's ready to retire and leave the city, but when he sees his Anisa standing at Lawman's side, he knows he must rescue her from the abusive enforcer. Risking his life and his sanity, he devises a plan, knowing that failure will mean death for him, and a lifetime of torment for her

  3. Hi Shona & Kylie,

What a great way to kick off 2013 by introducing us to some Aussie authors and sharing some great reads (although I can hear my TBR pile groaning already - and I'm like you Shona, trying to get them down to a manageable size), LOL.

Love the covers of your books, Shona, beautiful colours, hot heroes and eye-catching all round!
